Ronaldo and Marcelo: Real Madrid's Iconic Duo
Cristiano Ronaldo, the star at Al Nassr, has had a remarkable career, and his Real Madrid teammate Marcelo says playing with him was an honor.
Ronaldo is set to compete in another World Cup finals this summer, amid questions about his club future, with no signs of a decline despite a current injury. Now, as he eyes a sixth World Cup finals, fans wonder if he will extend his glittering club career beyond this summer.
What Made Ronaldo Special, According to Marcelo
Marcelo, from South America, told FourFourTwo what makes Ronaldo stand out: "It was an honor to play with Cristiano... He’s different—a leader, tireless worker, and a high-quality player. Many think he only cares about power, but they are wrong... He is an extraterrestrial being".
He added: "We both were two street-smart kids, learned to play barefoot and enjoyed our time. It’s part of our core, so we understood one another at a glance. Ronaldo would share tips now and then; he was smart and understood the challenges we faced in every match."
Clasico Challenges and Messi Encounters
That challenge included facing Lionel Messi regularly, year after year, as Real Madrid clashed with Barcelona in the Clasico.
On this challenge, Marcelo said: "Saying it was tough doesn’t do it justice. Sometimes facing Messi was a nightmare, but Real Madrid had plenty of quality, alongside Ronaldo, and stayed competitive throughout Pep Guardiola’s era."
Both described a bond built on respect, light jokes, and a shared love of football.
Bonus punchlines: If goals were punchlines, Ronaldo would headline the stand-up; And Marcelo would deliver the closing joke: "You're never offside when the ball is rolling your way".
