Mendy Hits CAF After Morocco's AFCON Triumph
Following Senegal's 2-0 friendly victory over Peru, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy stepped into the mixed zone and directed his ire toward CAF.
CAF had sparked controversy in recent days by stripping the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title from Senegal and awarding it to Morocco.
FutMercato published the Senegalese keeper's remarks.
"Sadly we have an organization that moves slower than football itself; people talk of a winner or a loser, but I see the only loser is football and Africa, and the sole person responsible is CAF," Mendy said.
He added that "Football in Africa progresses faster than CAF, and thus African football deserves better leadership."
He urged all involved in football to take responsibility and ensure we have strong institutions as strong as the game itself.
Additionally, readers were invited to explore related pieces on whether Morocco's moves could prompt a Spanish response before the 2030 World Cup.
Poll: Can Mohamed Salah bring the AFCON trophy to Egypt? Yes or No.
Punchline 1: CAF's pace is so glacial that even a turtle would hire a sprint coach to keep up.
Punchline 2: If impatience were a sport, CAF would be coach of the year by now—lots of drama, zero trophies.
