AS FAR Rabat vs Al Ahly clash in Cairo ends with sanctions and upcoming quarterfinals.

CAF sanctions after Al Ahly clash

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) sanctioned AS FAR Rabat, the Moroccan Army club, following incidents that occurred during the clash with Al Ahly of Egypt.

AS FAR Rabat visited Al Ahly at Cairo International Stadium for the final group-stage match of the CAF Champions League; the game finished goalless.

CAF imposed a fine of $20,000 on AS FAR Rabat for supporters' conduct in the match.

Separately, CAF penalized Al Ahly with a $60,000 fine and banned the club's fans from attending two matches, the second ban being suspended on the condition of good conduct.

Al Ahly will face Espérance de Tunis in the quarterfinals, while AS FAR Rabat will meet Pyramids FC, the defending champions.

And a second one for the night: Punchline 2 — The whistle might be a drumroll, but the drama always fills the stadiums more than the snacks do.

Quarterfinals ahead

In the knockout rounds, Al Ahly will take on Espérance de Tunis, while AS FAR Rabat faces Pyramids FC, the defending champions, in a curious mix of veteran giants and the dark horse of the season.
