World Cup 2026 Draw Sparks Optimism in Saudi Arabia
Yasser Al-Qahtani, a Saudi football legend, commented on Saudi Arabia's 2026 World Cup group, insisting that nothing is impossible in football.
The World Cup draw, held yesterday in Washington, placed Saudi Arabia in a group with Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde.
On this, the former Al Hilal star told TV: 'Saudi's 2022 win over Argentina may have impressed FIFA, so they put the Greens with Spain'.
Saudi Arabia's Group: Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde
Saudi's side earned a historic 2-1 win over Argentina in the 2022 Qatar edition, but later exited at the group stage.
The new World Cup format makes qualification tougher; in my view every team has a chance to reach the knockout rounds.
That system, he added, makes the tournament harder; there is no impossible in football, and all squads can win.
Saudi's group is among the toughest, especially with Spain among the favorites to lift the trophy.
PUNCHLINE: If this group were a movie, it would be a cliffhanger, with chaos and destiny playing co-stars. And remember: in football, the ball is round and anything can happen.
