Wydad Opens the Winter Window with a Strategic Signing from Lugano
Ayman Al-Wafi joins Wydad from Lugano to strengthen the defense

Wydad kicks off winter window with a strategic signing

Wydad Athletic Club quietly completed a significant deal, becoming the first club to enter the winter transfer market, by officially signing Moroccan international Ayman Al-Wafi, a defender for the Olympic team, from Lugano in Switzerland.

Al-Wafi signed a four-year contract, while the club chose not to disclose the financial terms of the deal.

This is the 50th signing since Hicham Ait Mana took the presidency about a year and a half ago, following his election at the general assembly.

Despite several defensive options like Brazilian Ferreira and Dutchman Bart, the management opted for Al-Wafi, 23, based on a direct recommendation from coach Amine Bennahsh.

This move fits Wydad’s policy of strengthening the squad, particularly after the high-profile signing of Hakim Ziyech on a free transfer—the biggest in Moroccan league history.

Currently, Wydad tops the Moroccan league and also leads their group in the CAF Confederation Cup, aiming to return to the podium after three seasons without titles.
