14 January 2026
Match reaction and implications
Saudi broadcaster Walid Al-Farag celebrated Al-Ahli's victory over Al-Tawoun in the Roshn League, saying they must compete for the title this season.
On his Akshan with Walid program on MBC Action, he described the moment as strange, noting events that delight some and sadden others, and joked that it deserves a psychologist.
He added: 'Al-Ahli's win delighted me; I want the club to compete for the Saudi league again after their AFC Champions League and Saudi Super Cup'.
And he noted: 'Al-Ahli hadn't won the Saudi league since 2016, and their return would spice up the title race'.
And he added: 'But Al-Tawoun's loss saddened me; I wanted them second, not for Al-Nasr, but to test the Public Investment Fund clubs'.
And he concluded: 'I wanted cooperation experiment to succeed; beating Al-Ahli would have left them second, which would be awkward for Al-Nasr, Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad, and Neom'.
Note that Al-Ahli's victory left Al-Nasr second in the standings on 31 points, level on goal difference with the two rivals.
