Al Hilal seals defensive coup ahead of derby against Al Nassr
Mari arrives in Riyadh as the derby approaches.

Deal sealed before the derby

Al Hilal has sealed the transfer of Spanish defender Pablo Mari from Fiorentina after finalizing all formalities surrounding the move, just two days ahead of the derby against Al Nassr.

In the 15th round of the Roshen Pro League, the leaders sit four points clear of their rivals.

What’s next for the new signing

According to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadhiah, the club is arranging Mari's arrival in Riyadh to allow an official announcement and his integration into training ahead of the derby.

The signing comes at the request of Italian coach Simone Inzaghi, who is looking to shore up the defence with Ali Al-Bulayhi and Kalidou Koulibaly unavailable due to AFCON. At age 32, Mari brings significant top-flight experience, including a spell with Arsenal, and he can be registered in the winter window with his derby participation decided by his readiness.
