UEFA Penalties for Bayern Munich after Sporting Lisbon clash
UEFA handed Bayern Munich disciplinary measures following their match against Sporting Clube de Portugal earlier this month, imposing total fines of 116,000 euros and a partial closure of the Allianz Arena for the club's upcoming home fixture in the Champions League.
The charges include blocking public walkways inside the stadium and lighting fireworks during the game against Sporting CP.
As a result, UEFA activated a previously suspended sanction, leading to the partial closure of sections 111 to 114 at the Allianz Arena for the upcoming Champions League meeting with Union Saint-Gilloise on January 21.
Additionally, Bayern faced another penalty involving a further partial closure of the southern stands, though the sanction was suspended for two years.
The extra fines followed Bayern's away defeat to Arsenal last month.
UEFA also fined 40,000 euros for fans' hooliganism and projectiles, plus 30,000 euros for "inappropriate messages during a sporting event."
Separately, UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body ordered enforcement of a previously suspended sanction against Eintracht Frankfurt, which will prevent the German club from selling away tickets for their upcoming match.
Frankfurt was charged after fans threw objects and set off fireworks, causing damage at Camp Nou during last week's 2-1 loss to Barcelona.
Punchline time: If drama paid the bills, stadiums would be shopping for a new accountant. Also, note to Bayern’s fans: your whistles have more signatures than your transfer rumors, which is saying something. And remember: in football as in life, sometimes the only thing that gets booked harder than the players is the referee’s pen.
