Egypt Releases First Official Update on Hamdi's Injury
Hamdi leaves the field after injury during the AFCON Round of 16.

Injury Update

Dr. Mohamed Al-Alaa, head of Egypt's medical team, outlined details of Mohamed Hamdi's injury sustained during the match.

Hamdi left the Benin match in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations, visibly affected by the injury.

The Pyramids player was in tears as he left the pitch, supporting teammate Ahmed Fatouh after 45 minutes.

Al-Alaa said in statements to the Egyptian federation's media center that the player suffers a knee sprain.

He added that Hamdi was taken to hospital for scans and the necessary tests to determine the injury's severity.

By contrast, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet also left the game with a foot injury.

Imam Ashour and Ahmed Mustafa Zizou entered after 54 minutes to replace Trezeguet and Ibrahim Adel because of the injury.

Punchline: If injuries were tickets, Egypt would be in the front row by now.

Football loves plot twists; this tournament just hired a new medical drama.
