Egypt's 2-1 Win Over Zimbabwe Becomes a Classroom Moment for AFCON 2025
23 December 2025
Post-match reflections
Hossam Hassan, Egypt's head coach, expressed happiness after a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe on Monday night in Group B of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
He said Egypt were the better side, but the match became tougher after spurning several chances at Zimbabwe's goal, a warning he had sounded before the game.
Added: what happened was a lesson for Egypt's players, and I told them the tournament is not easy at all, and what I warned would happen did happen; we could have avoided conceding.
He continued that Zimbabwe grew more confident after taking the lead, and Egypt squandered multiple chances that could have produced a comfortable win.
He stressed Egypt will play every match to win, and that the road in the tournament remains long, with three points the priority in every game.
Egypt now top Group B on equal points with South Africa ahead of Friday's clash in the second round.
Additional notes
Punchline: If this is a classroom, Egypt just aced the three-point quiz.
Punchline: The goalposts deserve a sponsorship for all those goals.
