Gomes points to a title challenger
Portuguese coach Jose Gomes of Al Fateh has named a team he believes is a strong candidate to enter the Saudi Pro League title race this season.
Fateh's win keeps the title race alive
Gomes steered Fateh to a third straight win by beating Al Shabab 2-0 on Saturday, after an earlier 2-1 victory over Al Ahli two rounds ago.
In remarks to the Saudi daily Al Sharq Al-Awsat, he said he sees Al Ittihad moving strongly toward the title.
Al Ittihad had also beaten Al Taawoun 1-0 on Saturday, extending coach Sergio Conceicao's side's run and reducing the gap to leaders Al Nasr to eight points.
Gomes added that the league remains long and open, with every side capable of climbing higher in the coming rounds.
Sniper punchline: If the league were a target, Gomes just fired a reminder shot and reloaded for the chase. Boom, title talk everywhere.
Final zinger: In football as in comedy, timing is everything; the whistle blows and the title race is suddenly wide open.
