Morocco's potent attack shines in AFCON 2025 group stage

The Moroccan national team showcased a powerful attack during their Group Stage matches of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, hosted on Moroccan soil.

The Atlas Lions advanced to the Round of 16 with seven points, scoring six goals and conceding one, all without a defeat.

The duo Ayoub Kakbi and Ibrahim Diaz shined, delivering a string of records that revived memories of Morocco's legends and stars from past continental tournaments.

Records, milestones and knockout readiness

Opta, the football statistics network, noted: This is the second AFCON edition where more than one Moroccan player has scored 3 goals or more after the tournament held in Tunisia in 2004.

They added that in AFCON 2004, Youssef Hadji and Youssef Mokhtari each scored 3 goals, the same total Diaz and Kakbi have already tallied by the end of the group stage in the current edition.

Morocco qualified for the Round of 16 from Group A, with Mali finishing on three points from three draws.

Punchline (sniper joke): Kakbi and Diaz shoot with such precision you could hear the goalie sigh, Not again.

Punchline 2 (sniper joke): If football scoring were a sniper job, Morocco would win the gold and the trophy would applaud itself.
