Match-day remarks and key moments
Kuwait Football Association president Sheikh Ahmed Al-Yousif stated that his country’s squad was the nearest to defeating Egypt in the Arab Cup clash held in Qatar, underscoring the effort shown by the team.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw after both teams found the net at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday evening, opening the third group stage of the tournament.
Kuwait took the lead through Fahd Al-Hajri in the 64th minute, and Egypt’s Mohamed Magdy Afsha leveled in the 87th minute via a penalty to salvage a point for the visitors.
Al-Yousif commented on the atmosphere and the importance of fan support, noting that Kuwaiti supporters are a vital part of the squad and that logistics for the upcoming Jordan game would be adjusted to maximize backing.
He added that they had closed an important chapter and pushed hard against a strong opponent, with discussions held among players, coaches and officials about refining their approach for the Jordan fixture.
Al-Yousif also affirmed the validity of the late penalty that Egypt converted, stressing that it was thoroughly deserved under the match circumstances.
After the game, Kuwait’s Yousef Majed posted on X that praise be to God in any case, describing the draw as tasting like a loss and thanking the home crowd while hoping to secure qualification.
Meanwhile, Kuwaiti forward Mohammed Daham apologized for a late miss, tweeting that they would strive to make amends in the next match and asked supporters for continued encouragement.
The teams now turn their attention to the upcoming Jordan clash, with Kuwait aiming to bounce back and Egypt seeking a place in the knockout rounds.
Punchline 1: If football were a sniper, Kuwait almost pulled the trigger—on the scoreboard, not the net. Punchline 2: Kuwait’s travel plan for the Jordan game? More flights, more hope, and maybe a goal that actually lands in the target this time.
