LAPORTA CALLS PEREZ'S BARCELONA OBSESSION A SERIOUS FIXATION
Barcelona president Joan Laporta accused Real Madrid president Florentino Perez of an obsession with Barcelona, insisting the Madrid club is more focused on Barca than on its own affairs amid disputes over the European Super League and the Negreira affair.
According to AS, Laporta defended Barca after Perez launched fresh attacks on the Catalan club and La Liga.
He argued that Madrid’s split from Barca in the Super League left Perez bitter, saying: 'What I see is they are suffering from an obsession with Barcelona that has taken root in Real Madrid's fans. I have nothing further to add.'
Asked why Madrid keeps escalating, Laporta replied: 'The question should be directed at them... For us, the situation is fine because they are more preoccupied with us than they should be. We will keep working, and this won't affect us.'
He added: 'If the discourse shifts, it is because there were alignments before a year ago (the Super League), and now that project failed, we are focused on reaching an agreement with the European Union, which I believe is best for European football, because Barca seeks peace.'
Finally Laporta concluded: 'It's good they keep talking about Barcelona from the capital. They have an obsession with Barcelona, and we can't do more. All they want is to justify something that failed.'
Punchline: If obsession were a transfer market, Madrid would be buying Barcelona stock every day.
