Leading from the Front: Pressure as a Privilege
The eighth round of the ADNOC Pro League wraps up on Saturday with Kalba hosting Al Bataeh, Al Wasl welcoming Ajman at Zabeel Stadium in Dubai, and Al Ain hosting Al Jazira at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.
Al Ain’s Serbian head coach Vladimir Ivic confirmed the squad’s readiness despite the international break that kept several players away on duty.
In the pre-match press conference, Ivic said, “We’re used to these conditions and know how to handle them. We’ve prepared with the players available, and those returning from national duties understand what is required. I have great confidence they’ll be in peak shape.”
Asked about leading the table by a narrow margin, he added, “Playing under pressure is a feature, not a burden. This pressure is a privilege for any team aiming to stay at the top.”
“We provide clear instructions and rely on a cohesive unit; some moments demand on-pitch decisions, and their ability to decide adds strength to the team.”
The coach also thanked Al Ain’s fans for their unwavering support this season: “The supporters are the key players; we need them in the stadium, united in pursuit of one goal.”
Regarding the high-pressing style this season, Ivic described it as the result of organized tactics and fighting spirit: “We have a clear approach in attack, defense, and set-pieces. The players know when to press and when to regroup.”
He stressed that the players receive the necessary instructions, but some moments require on-field decisions, and their composure gives the team additional strength.
He closed by underscoring focus and teamwork: “We value every match and work daily with high energy to achieve the best results.”
striker Laba Kodjo, the Togolese forward for Al Ain, said the team enters the Al Jazira game fully prepared both technically and mentally, noting a blend of experience, ambition, and young talent this season.
In the pre-match conference, Laba said, “We benefited from the pre-season and everyone is working with the same spirit and goal; the young players are providing strong support, and everyone competes for a starting place.”
Regarding his own goals against Al Jazira, where he has stood out historically, Laba attributed success to team effort: “Scoring is part of my job, but the credit goes to my teammates. The game starts from defense, goes through midfield, and ends with us in attack.”
“We treat every match as the most important and always play with the family spirit, which gives us confidence for all challenges.”
He also sent a message to the fans: “You’re the best; your support lifts our spirits. I hope to see you in the stands because you’re a tremendous force for us.”
The press conference also highlighted Ivic’s fatherly role toward the squad, earning players’ trust as they strive for a shared objective this season.
Earlier, Khor Laut? Rabni Revas, a Kalba player, commented on the run-up to the game: “We’ve had a good period to recover after two disappointing results; we’ve used this time positively and prepared as best as possible.”
“We’ve worked on correcting errors and refining details ahead of the next clash; we’ll head into the match with high intensity and will fight until the final whistle.”
“We also need our fans every match; they are a vital part of our strength, and we’re confident we can achieve big results together.”
Speaking about the Wasl–Ajman setup, Wasl coach Masoud Miral said, “We’re returning to the round with a solid performance expectation after a decent showing in the last game.”
“I’m confident the players will deliver their best on the pitch, and it’s the first time since the season began that the squad is at full strength, which is a positive boost heading into the game.”
Ajman coach Goran added, “I’m pleased with the work done in preparation; we expect a tough match because our opponent has quality players.”
“I have great faith in the Ajman players and their ability to return with a positive result in Dubai. Our aim is to improve our position before the end of the first round.”
Wasl’s Matheus Saldanha said, “We now have a new coach, and beating Ajman is important for points. It’s a fresh opportunity for the team, and we’ve trained with focus and discipline for days.”
