Liverpool Breaks Christmas Tradition as Van Dijk Secures Day Off

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk revealed that the Premier League champions would take a Christmas Day off, the first such break in his Liverpool tenure.

After a 2-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday, the Reds will next face Wolverhampton this weekend.

Typically the Christmas period features Boxing Day fixtures, and players are required to attend and train the day prior to it.

But with only one game currently scheduled on December 26 in the Premier League this season, manager Arne Slot decided to grant Liverpool players a Christmas Day with their families instead.

Van Dijk, speaking to the Daily Mail, said, 'We’ll get a day off on Christmas Day, which is nice from the coaching staff'.

He added, 'It's a change. I'll be home on Christmas Eve, and I'm excited about it'.

The coaching staff has a plan for each game, and it works well for everyone. A Christmas Day off is special.

Liverpool players hosted their Christmas dinner on Saturday night, lingering at the table with plenty to discuss after extending their unbeaten run to six games.

Punchline: Christmas Day off? Even Santa clocked out early to avoid the pitch.

Punchline: If the calendar gets any tighter, Klopp will start coaching the schedule itself. Sniper-level planning, folks!
