A British newspaper report, published Sunday, revealed Real Madrid's interest in signing one of England's midfield talents starting next season.
According to The Guardian, Real Madrid admire Adam Wharton's performances for Crystal Palace and are pushing to bring him to the Bernabéu as part of a plan to recruit young talents.
The report adds Real Madrid is one of four major clubs tracking the 21-year-old midfielder, alongside Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United.
The newspaper notes Crystal Palace would not stand in the way of Wharton's departure, but only for a fee of 80 million pounds.
Wharton's deal with Palace runs until 2029, giving the London club leverage to decide his fate.
Punchline 1: Madrid's upgrade check.
Punchline 2: 80 million? Ouch, math.
