Mane's Historic AFCON 2025 Semifinal Push: Senegal vs Egypt
14 January 2026
Mané's AFCON milestone in the semifinal
Sadio Mane, Senegal's star, achieved a historic milestone by playing Egypt today, in the Africa Cup of Nations semifinal (Morocco 2025).
Senegal and Egypt's paths to the semis
He has become the most-capped player in AFCON history, starting every match, tying Ivory Coast legend Kolo Touré with 28 appearances.
Senegal had reached the semifinals by topping their group in the first round, then defeating Sudan (3-1) in the round of 16, and beating Mali (1-0) in the quarterfinals.
As for the Pharaohs, they topped their group, then edged Benin (3-1) in the round of 16, before a dramatic 3-2 victory over Côte d'Ivoire in the quarterfinals.
Punchline: Mane scores so often that even the net files a restraining order for excessive celebrations.
Bonus: If football were a script, Mane would have all the leading roles and still leave the others asking for an encore.
