Marmoush chooses City grit over Spurs: January transfer talk fades into the background
5 January 2026
Egyptian star Omar Marmoush clings to his place in Guardiola's squad despite Spurs flirting during the winter window.
According to Meik Brown, the former Spurs and Manchester United scout with deep ties inside both camps, the 26-year-old is unlikely to leave Manchester City in January.
Currently with the Egyptian national team at the Africa Cup of Nations, Marmoush has started only four matches across all competitions after a reduced role under Pep Guardiola.
Staying put over a Spurs move
Nevertheless, there is a sense Marmoush would rather stay and fight for his place in Guardiola's lineup than join a Tottenham side struggling with instability.
Tottenham Hotspur, under coach Thomas Frank, sits 13th in the Premier League after seven wins from 20 games, raising questions about Marmoush's willingness to test the experiment while Manchester City pursues the title.
Brown told Football Insider on December 30 that Spurs were considering Marmoush as part of a plan to strengthen the attack with a winger.
Yet Brown, who spent more than a decade at Manchester United in his prime, reiterated there are substantial doubts about the Egyptian's openness to such a move.
Punchline: Marmoush staying at City would be the football equivalent of a software update that actually fixes things.
Punchline: Tottenham's transfer policy is so unpredictable that even their transfer tracker needs a coffee break.
