Real Madrid star shines, but Morocco wins.
One of the Moroccan squad's stars earned the Player of the Match award in the Morocco-Cameroon clash, taking place today as part of AFCON 2025.
Morocco advanced to the semi-finals with a 2-0 victory over Cameroon at Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, on Friday evening there.
Ibrahim Diaz opened the scoring in the 26th minute, and Ismail Sibiari added the second in the 74th, as a large, passionate home crowd cheered the hosts tonight.
Despite Diaz's dazzling display—becoming the second AFCON player to score in his first five appearances in the tournament, and the first to score in the first five matches of a single edition—the Best Player award went to Ismail Sibiari.
Sibiari's performance was highlighted by his smart movement, his speed between lines, and his midfield presence that constantly troubled Cameroon. His work rate made it hard for Cameroon's defense to breathe.
As well, the 24-year-old Ismail Sibiari contributed not only with his second goal but also with relentless physical and tactical efforts that gave Morocco clear margins across the match.
Morocco, under coach Walid Regragui, push toward the continental crown last won in 1976, as they prepare to face the Nigeria-Algeria semi-final winner. Glory could finally come soon.
