Transfer Talk: Benfica Eyes Gasova Amid Ronaldo's Question Marks
Portuguese club Benfica has entered talks in the past few days to sign one of the 'global' players who has been turning heads across Europe.
Ahead of this move, star Cristiano Ronaldo could face a new challenge, as teammate Wesley Gasova seems poised to leave the club after Benfica's interest and input from manager Jose Mourinho.
According to the Portuguese edition of CNN, Gasova (age 20) attracted Benfica's attention, which has already begun negotiations with Al-Nassr to sign him in January 2026.
The report adds: although the player is a key piece in coach Jorge Jesus' setup, the latter gave the green light to his departure, especially with Joao Felix and Kingsley Coman occupying key wide positions.
Nevertheless, Gasova's absence could significantly affect the team's attacking variety, potentially pushing management to seek a new option.
Since joining Al-Nassr in 2024, Gasova has proven himself as one of the brightest young talents, despite limited goal contributions.
But the arrivals of Felix and Coman have intensified the competition, leaving the young winger with less playing time.
CNN added that the move to Benfica could offer the youngster a fresh stage to shine and a notable step toward breaking into top European football.
Coach Jorge Jesus had repeatedly outlined the team's plans to reinforce, noting that the squad still lacks several elements.
In his latest press conference, the coach named two target positions for reinforcement in January 2026: a midfielder or a forward. Consequently, Ronaldo could welcome a prominent new teammate as the club pursues domestic league glory and a deep run in Asia.
Punchline 1: If this signing lands, Ronaldo will finally have a teammate who can share the headlines—without stealing the ball.
Punchline 2: And if Benfica signs him, the bench might become a comedy club—high stakes, low kicks, and plenty of goals.
