Mourinho’s Curious Win-The-Season Bet: He’ll Celebrate Roma’s Serie A Title Only If This One Thing Happens

Race Notes
Benfica boss Jose Mourinho has confessed that he would return to Italy and even head to Circus Maximo to celebrate with Roma fans should Roma clinch the Italian league title, while noting that the Scudetto race is likely to be limited to three clubs.
The remarks came in response to a question about title contenders during a press conference following Benfica's 2-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Three-Horse Race and Roma’s Curious Look
The Portuguese coach outlined his view of the title fight: it’s tough. Inter possess a strong squad with immense potential, Napoli are in the mix as well, and Milan benefit from a lighter schedule with just one league match per week. Milan also boasts a superb coach in Max Allegri who can operate in a way that Conte or others might struggle to replicate due to fixture congestion.
“Unfortunately, I think the competition will be among these three teams only,” he added, referring to Milan, Inter, and Napoli.
When asked why he used the word “unfortunately” to exclude other clubs, he explained that he would have loved to see Roma among the contenders and that he would have gone to Circus Maximo to celebrate with them, but he doesn’t think that will happen.
It’s worth noting that Circus Maximus remains the traditional venue for Roma celebrations, and Mourinho has celebrated there before, notably after Roma’s triumph in the Europa Conference League in 2022.
The piece also touches on Roma’s ongoing European campaign, including a Europa League match against Celtic scheduled for December 11, 2025, at 21:00, underscoring the capital club’s continental commitments.
Punchline 1: If Roma somehow wins the Scudetto, expect Mourinho to arrive in a chariot wearing a chef’s hat—because he’ll be cooking up celebrations.
Punchline 2: If not, there’s always a victory pizza with extra olives to console the fans.
