Nigeria’s Scoring Blitz: AFCON 2025 Sparks History as they vanquish Algeria 2-0

Nigeria’s scoring spree echoes Egypt as AFCON 2025 advances
The Nigerian national team wrote a new chapter in Africa Cup of Nations history, becoming the second side to score at least two goals in each of its first five matches in a single edition, by defeating Algeria 2-0 on Saturday in the AFCON 2025 quarterfinals.
Only Egypt had done this before, achieving the feat in 1974 and 2010.
Nigeria dominated most of the first half, but squandered several close chances, leaving it goalless at halftime, before Victor Osimhen opened the scoring for the Green Eagles early in the second half (1-0).
In the 57th minute Nigeria sealed the second with Akor Adams.
Nigeria had crushed Mozambique 4-0 in the round of 16, while Algeria edged the Democratic Republic of Congo in extra time (1-0).
All in all, a display that confirms Nigeria's attacking firepower this edition. If this pace keeps up, defenses might start asking for mercy rules and a cup of tea at the 60th minute.
Punchline 1: If Nigeria’s attack were a sniper, every shot would be a hit—no misses, just spectacular headlines.
Punchline 2: If goals were currency, the Super Eagles would be minting money this tournament.
