PSG Crowned Intercontinental Cup Champs After Penalty Thriller

Paris Saint-Germain achieved a milestone by clinching the Intercontinental Cup trophy after a dramatic penalty shootout with Flamengo.

PSG sealed the title by winning 2-1 on penalties, on Wednesday, at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Qatar.

In regular time, both sides were level, Khvicha Kvartatskhelia opening in the 38th minute, Giorginho equalizing for Flamengo from the penalty spot in the 62nd.

The match stayed deadlocked through extra time, prompting a decisive shootout.

According to Opta, PSG became the third men's team to win six titles in a calendar year in the twenty-first century, after Barcelona in 2009 and Bayern Munich in 2020.

They also became the first French club to claim six trophies in a single season.

In the shootout, PSG sealed the win thanks to Matvei Safonov's saves, who stopped four penalties as the French clinched 2-1. (Trophy requires a hero pose.)
