Match Day Update
Shenawy exited the match with injury.
Club medical chief Mustafa Al-Muniri explained the initial diagnosis showed a strong knee contusion, and Shenawy would undergo scans in Cairo after returning.
Shenawy left in the 37th minute, with Mahmoud Gad coming on. Pyramids beat Power Dynamos 1-0 at Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola, collecting six points and staying second in Group A.
Al-Muniri told the club’s medical team that the initial assessment showed a severe contusion on the outer knee, and the player would undergo scans in Cairo upon the squad’s return to determine the injury’s extent.
Coach Reactions
Krunoslav Jurcic, Pyramids' Croatian coach, said he was very pleased with the victory. He added that he expected a tough match and that Power Dynamos is a strong side at home with players capable of stepping up to big clubs.
Also, Jurcic warned that early success does not guarantee qualification, pointing to the tournament’s volatility, including a late win by the Moroccan side and Power Dynamos' strength at home.
And he stressed the need to return to Cairo immediately to push on in the domestic league.
He also thanked the travelling fans for their support.
The team now heads home to Cairo to prepare for league duties and the next continental fixture.
Punchline: If knees could gossip, this one would have headlines—“Shenawy’s knee drops a bombshell.” Punchline 2: On this pace, the trophy cabinet might need a bigger door.
