What’s at stake
Pyramids FC has settled the debate over their goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shenawy missing the Intercontinental Cup, which is scheduled to take place this month in Doha.
Pyramids, the African Champions League title holders, will face the winner of the Cruz Azul versus Flamengo clash on December 13 in the Qatari capital.
The team advanced by beating Auckland City FC 3-0 in Oceania, then beating Al-Ahli Saudi FC 3-1 in Jeddah.
Injury update
Shenawy picked up an injury in the CAF Champions League group match with Power Dynamos last Saturday, a 1-0 win for Pyramids.
Club doctor Mustafa Al-Maniri said scans confirmed a strong contusion on the knee’s outer side.
He requires several days of physio and rehabilitation, keeping him in contention for Sunday's league game against Petrojet and not ruling him out of the Intercontinental Cup.
Shenawy was named in Egypt’s provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled between December 21 and January 18.
Meanwhile, fans hope the knee finds its rhythm; after all, timing wins games and punchlines.
If recovery goes well, Shenawy could glitter in Doha's spotlight.
