Saudi Greens Eye a Historic Knockout Run
Saudi football legend Khaled Al-Shaif believes the Green Falcons can reach the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, a milestone for Saudi football.
They were drawn in Group Eight with Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde, creating a demanding path but a chance to make history.
In a televised interview on Saturday, Al-Shaif recalled the 1994 World Cup held in the United States and the venues that will host Saudi matches, calling it the best World Cup in Saudi football history.
He added that with careful planning, thorough preparation, solid organization, the coach’s work, and the players’ quality, they can go far. If they advance from this tough group to the Round of 32, then reach the Round of 16, it would be a real achievement. It’s a reality we should agree on, and God willing we will celebrate with the Green.
Saudi Arabia opens their World Cup campaign against Uruguay on June 16, then faces Spain on June 21, and finishes the group against Cape Verde on June 26.
Punchline 1: If they reach the knockout stage, the trophy might need a bigger shelf—green energy in abundance.
Punchline 2: And if things go south, at least the memes will stay green and caffeinated.
