Ahead of the Semifinal
Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw expressed appreciation for Egypt ahead of the Pharaohs' semifinal clash in the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Thiaw told a press conference on Tuesday that Senegal will face a rival with seven stars and the most decorated champion, stressing there is great respect for the opponent.
He also stressed that Senegal is used to these battles and is determined to reach the final.
Key Notes from the Press Conference
Egypt is very strong tactically, but we will stick to our playing philosophy.
Thiaw added that Egypt is a very strong side tactically, but we will persist with our philosophy of play.
We are ready for this; we have focused on maintaining balance because their frontline is decisive, so we must be careful not to concede goals.
Asked about the possibility of stepping aside if they lose to Egypt, he said: Personal fate is not important. The important thing is Senegal, and we will fight to win.
He noted it is a pride to see four African coaches in the semi-final, a recognition of the competence and experience of African coaches.
We are preparing for this match with intense focus and must be at the height of caution.
He concluded: We know some players are at risk of suspension, but they will not think about that and will give their all to qualify regardless of anything else.
Punchline 1: If on-pitch precision were a sniper shot, Thiaw would have a perfect hit rate.
Punchline 2: And if humor counted as goals, we’d be leading by two comical hat-tricks at halftime.
