United's Rough Patch vs Wolves: Amorim Admits a Grindy 1-1 Draw Was a Struggle

Match context and performance
Manchester United manager, the Portuguese Rubén Amorim, admitted the performance his side offered in the 1-1 draw with visiting Wolverhampton was difficult.
Amorim also confessed that United struggled on both technical and tactical levels throughout the game, dashing fans' hopes at Old Trafford.
Amorim's assessment and tactical choices
In remarks to Sky Sports after the match, he said his side were not at their best, adding: 'We suffered for the full 90 minutes. We lacked the ability to create chances, and we knew the game would be very different from Newcastle.'
He added: 'The energy was different; although we created some chances over 90 minutes, the attacking fluency was missing, and there is a clear lack of cohesion between the lines at the moment.'
The United boss explained the match's nature posed additional challenges for his players, saying: 'It was a completely different game from the previous one. Wolves sat deeper with more players behind the ball, and when you face a team like that you need extra effort in building play, more imagination, and to manage the game differently. Unfortunately, we lacked that today.'
Amorim then spoke bluntly: 'The players tried, but we didn't play well. When you don't perform with the ball, you suffer even when you have it. That's the reality of the match,' noting focus now must be on recovering and preparing for the next fixture.
On his decision to substitute Joshua Zirkzee, who scored United's goal in the second half, Amorim said it was purely tactical: 'We ran a lot to win the ball back and struggled against Wolves' midfield. Sometimes you attack better with fewer forwards. We played with three attackers, and that's not always the best option for building a structured attack.'
The United coach closed his remarks by stressing the need to move on from the result, saying: 'This match is over; you can't change the result now, but you can turn the page and think about the next game. That's what we'll do.'
Punchlines: Sniper-approved humor to close the piece: if this performance were a smartphone, it would be stuck on loading forever; the midfield looked so disjointed that even Bluetooth couldn't pair them.
