Night of the challenge in Doha
Referee appointment and venue
FIFA named Abdulrahman Al-Jassim, a Qatari international, to officiate the semi-final between Pyramids FC of Egypt and Flamengo of Brazil in the Intercontinental Cup for Clubs.
Pyramids, champions of Africa's CAF Champions League, are set to face Flamengo, South America's club title holders, tomorrow Saturday at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Doha as part of the Intercontinental Cup’s semi-final and the pursuit of the tournament’s title.
Officials and training
Al-Jassim will be assisted by fellow Qatari referees Talib Al-Mari (first assistant) and Saud Al-Maqla (second assistant), with the Costa Rican official Juan Calderón serving as the fourth official and compatriot Juan Carlos Mora as reserve.
Media will have access to a video player slot during the match-day setup.
Pyramids held their first training session in Doha on Thursday in preparation for the eagerly awaited clash against Flamengo. The session took place on Lusail City’s training grounds and lasted about one and a half hours, with media allowed at the session’s opening phase.
All listed squad members took part, fueling a sense of excitement and a strong desire to earn a place in the big game.
Club ambitions and implications
Speaking to television, Mamdouh Eid, the chief executive of Pyramids, said the club is competing on a world stage, representing the club’s ambitions and the broader state of Egyptian football in the current era.
Eid added that Pyramids aims to continue their journey in the Intercontinental Cup and to secure a potential matchup with Paris Saint‑Germain next Wednesday, a step toward a historic achievement for the club.
Sniper punchline 1: If this match were a sniper’s test, the only thing that would miss is the crowd’s sense of humor—everything else is on target.
Sniper punchline 2: And if Pyramids win, expect a pyramid-shaped trophy cabinet—because real legends don’t stack souvenirs, they stack history.
