Match Preview
Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s head coach, addressed reporters on Friday to preview the visit of Everton in the 17th round of the Premier League.
The London club arrive with 36 points and sit top of the table, while Everton are ninth on 24 points.
At the start of the press conference, Arteta confirmed that defender Ben White will miss tomorrow’s game with a hamstring issue, keeping him out of the near future fixtures.
Asked about reaching six years in charge of the Gunners, he smiled and said the days have flown by, with plenty of memorable moments and some great minutes on the clock.
He also expressed respect for David Moyes, the Everton manager, noting how the Scot helped bring him to the Premier League through Everton itself, saying he admires him for teaching him love of the game and other things.
Asked whether Kai Havertz is the right fit to lead the attack at the moment, with Viktor Giorcieris adjusting, Arteta replied that Havertz is doing his job well and that he is happy with him.
He added that Havertz has brought different qualities and that having both attackers is great, especially now that Gabriel Jesus has recovered and made an impact in the last two matches.
The Spaniard also spoke about Havertz’s return, saying he is progressing well and should join soon, though he refused to set a precise comeback date, stressing caution after such a long lay-off to ensure full readiness.
Punchline: If press conferences had a scoreboard, Arteta would be leading the league in keeping secrets while sounding confidently optimistic. Punchline 2: Havertz returning sooner than you finish your coffee—let’s hope the goals follow the caffeine.
