Cancelo Returns on Loan to Barcelona
Barcelona announced on Tuesday the official signing of Joao Cancelo from Al-Hilal on a loan deal until the end of the season. Cancelo will wear the number 2 shirt for Barça.
Ceremony and Details
The signing ceremony took place at Barça's offices on Tuesday in the presence of President Joan Laporta, Vice President Rafael Yuste, Board member Joan Soler, sporting director Anderson Luís de Sousa "Deko", and Cancelo's family who accompanied him on the occasion.
Barcelona's statement added: Cancelo is returning to Barcelona after a previous spell with the Blaugrana during the 2023/24 season when the Portuguese full-back was on loan from Manchester City.
Past Barça Spell and Al Hilal Move
During that stint, Cancelo played 42 matches in total (32 in La Liga and 10 in the Champions League), scoring 4 goals (2 in La Liga and 2 in the Champions League) and providing 5 assists (4 in the league and 1 in Europe).
After his loan ended on June 30, 2024, he moved to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, where he has appeared 45 times in a season and a half.
With this move, Cancelo re-joins Barça and continues his career at the club where he previously shone.
Punchlines: "If football were a sniper's target, Cancelo would be hitting bullseyes with every cross."
"Barça's defense just got a loan extension—watch the attackers bring better excuses."
