Donis addresses succession rumors
Greek coach Giorgos Donis, head coach of Al Khaleej, commented on reports that he could take over the Saudi national team after Hervé Renard.
Earlier reports had speculated Renard would depart the post before the 2026 World Cup, with another Roshn Saudi League coach taking charge of the Green during the tournament.
Donis was asked about this matter at the press conference for the Al Hilal vs Al Khaleej match, scheduled for the day after tomorrow at Kingdom Arena, in the 11th round of the Saudi Pro League.
Donis said, in statements carried by Asharq Al-Awsat: I feel I am part of Saudi football and I am proud.
He added: During my long spell here, I have produced many players for the national team, and if asked which national team I would like to lead, I would say Greece and Saudi Arabia.
The Greek coach has led several Saudi clubs over his career, including Al Hilal, Al Wehda, and Al Fateh, before moving to Al Khaleej at the start of last season.
Punchline 1: If coaching Saudi football is a dream, wake me up for the trophy and the falafel.
Punchline 2: My résumé is so international, even the coffee breaks have accents.
