Donnarumma Crowned World’s Best Goalkeeper for 2025
Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper who recently moved to Manchester City, has been named the World’s Best Goalkeeper of 2025 by FIFA. He edged a shortlist that included Alisson Becker, Thibaut Courtois, Emiliano Martínez, Manuel Neuer, David Raya, Jan Sommer, and Wojciech Szczęsny.
The nominees were chosen by a panel of experts, with final votes cast by national team coaches, captains, football journalists, and fans on FIFA's official site. The evaluation period ran from August 11, 2024 to August 2, 2025.
Donnarumma enjoyed a superb season with PSG, helping them win Ligue 1 and domestic cups (France’s Cup and the Trophée des Champions) as part of a domestic treble.
He played a pivotal role in PSG’s historic Champions League triumph, delivering standout performances throughout the campaign and keeping a clean sheet in the final 5-0 win over Inter.
Before joining City, he also helped Luis Enrique’s side reach the Club World Cup final in 2025.
Since joining Manchester City this summer, Donnarumma has continued to shine, aiding Pep Guardiola’s team to second place in the Premier League and progress in the Champions League.
Donnarumma said: "It is a great honor to win this prestigious award, and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me." He added: "I’m incredibly proud to be recognised as the world’s best goalkeeper, and I have immense respect for the other top keepers." He noted that the year had been unbelievable and the recognition is for the role he played in those successes.
"I will treasure this accolade and look forward to achieving more with my new club Manchester City," he said.
The victory follows his inclusion in FIFPRO World XI 2025 and the Yashin Award for 2025, while Hannah Hampton won The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper 2025, becoming the second English player to win the prize after Mary Earps.
