Egypt's AFCON 2025 Update: Trezeguet Rested, Adel Watches Zimbabwe Clash
15 December 2025
Team updates ahead of AFCON 2025 in Morocco
Egypt’s national team staff, led by coach Hossam Hassan, clarified the status of Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet (left winger for Al Ahly) and Ibrahim Adel (left winger for Al Jazira) ahead of Monday’s Zimbabwe match in Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Egypt will also play a warm-up friendly against Nigeria in Cairo on Tuesday as part of preparations for the tournament which runs from December 21 to January 18 in Morocco.
Team manager Ibrahim Hassan told the Egyptian federation’s media center: We chose to rest Trezeguet from training today and the Nigeria friendly because he is undergoing treatment after severe tooth pain.
He added that Trezeguet will still be able to reach Zimbabwe in good shape, while Ibrahim Adel has joined the squad but hobble by an ankle twist sustained in his UAE Cup involvement.
The manager noted Adel will also participate in the Zimbabwe match but will skip the Nigeria warm-up altogether.
What to expect for Zimbabwe and Nigeria games
The plan remains that Trezeguet will be available for the Zimbabwe game, while Adel has joined camp and will participate in the Zimbabwe match but will skip the Nigeria friendly.
Punchline 1: If patience were a sport, Egypt would win every time—especially when a dentist is involved.
Punchline 2: Morocco 2025 will test more than tactics; even the zebras on the field deserve snacks before kickoff.
