The Romanian coach Cosmin Olăroiu, who leads the United Arab Emirates, confirmed that his side will face Egypt at Lusail Stadium on Saturday, in the Arab Cup's second group game in Qatar. He described Egypt as one of the tournament's best teams and said the match will be a stern test ahead.
In a press conference he said that UAE have a strong contest against one of the tournament's top sides, and the goal is to learn from past mistakes and secure a win.
He added that the players spent a day recovering after facing Jordan in the opener, noting that his team faces challenges and that the Egypt clash will be tough after the opening 1-2 defeat.
He said we were not lucky in several matches, that is football by nature, but we must stay positive, overcome the challenges, and push for victory in every upcoming game.
He noted that Kuwait performed well against Egypt, and UAE played eighty minutes with ten men in the previous match, yet still held possession; now they must attack and find the resolve to stabilise the team.
Olăroiu added that tomorrow's game will be a hard and strong test, with no option but to win, and urged players to avoid repeating past mistakes caused by losing control and to seek the right solutions.
Yahya Al-Gassani, UAE winger, said: Egypt has great capabilities and delivered a strong display against Kuwait, which motivates them for a memorable clash.
He added that they expect an entertaining match for everyone, and with the support of the coaching staff they will give their best to achieve the victory and please their fans.
He continued that the loss to Jordan is behind them and they are ready for Egypt; the opponent's strength only raises their motivation to perform, and Egypt's name remains strong whether they field the first or second squad.
Sniper punchline 1: If luck is a player, UAE would have him benched.
Sniper punchline 2: In football, the ball sometimes finds a way to the net only after asking for directions from the corner flag.
