23 December 2025
Egypt's Trio Make Their Mark
The trio Omar Marmoush, Mohamed Hany, and Yasser Ibrahim delivered important messages for Egypt after edging Zimbabwe 2-1 on Monday in the opening round of Group B at AFCON 2025.
Marmoush earned the Man of the Match award for scoring the equalizer, before Mohamed Salah struck the winner.
Marmoush said after receiving the award that beginnings are always tough, and Egypt now target a win in Friday's clash with South Africa.
Mohamed Hany, the right-back, spoke on TV after the game, expressing happiness with the three-point haul and noting that the continental championship is not as easy as some imagine.
He added that the side were the better team and created several opportunities against Zimbabwe, and that performances will improve with more games.
Yasser Ibrahim, the defender, said the victory is an important early point for the Pharaohs and that the display was solid given the opening-match difficulty.
He also addressed any rough patch with teammate Hossam Abdel-Majid, stressing that Hossam is a skilled player and there was understanding, with luck favoring the Pharaohs to secure the three points.
Looking Ahead
Marmoush’s remark about tough beginnings underscored a collective mindset: the team knows the road ahead is demanding but promising, and Friday’s match against South Africa looms large.
As confidence grows, Egypt will look to sharpen chances and sustain the momentum, with the aim of building a deep run in AFCON 2025.
Punchline 1: They said it would be a tough start—Egypt answered by practically wiring the goals with a smile.
Punchline 2: If football had a love language, Egypt just spoke “Salah”—fluently, with two goals and a grin that wouldn’t quit.
