Final night in Jeddah crowns Tin's ascent
Tin, the American left-hander, sealed his rise with a historic victory at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, lifting the trophy and confirming his status among tennis’s brightest young talents.
In a final that Tin controlled from the start, the top seed defeated Belgian Alexander Blockx with scores of 4-3, 4-2 and 4-1, avenging last year’s defeat on the same Saudi courts.
With this triumph, Tin became only the third player to win the title as the top seed, joining Stefanos Tsitsipas (2018) and Carlos Alcaraz (2021).
The win carried a prize of $502,250, underscoring how this event has grown into a gateway to global stardom.
Season closer and atmospheric win
The victory capped Tin’s sensational 2025 season. After last year’s final setback to Brazilian Joao Fonseca, the left-hander blossomed, capturing his first professional title in Metz and tallying five wins over players ranked inside the world’s top 10, reaching No. 28 for the first time in his career.
The final, staged at King Abdullah Sports City, unfolded with an intense start from Blockx, who did not miss a first serve in the opening game. Tin steadied under the guidance of coach Michael Chang, clinched the first set’s decisive moments, and dominated exchanges from the backcourt, finishing in 58 minutes. Tin credited Chang for knowing when to intervene and offering the right advice at key moments.
Blockx, ranked 116, enjoyed a historic week as Belgium’s first finalist at the event and praised the organization and the crowd’s energy in Jeddah, while acknowledging he could not repeat his 2023 junior Australian Open final victory over Tin.
Tin’s win also highlighted how far he has come since his 2024 struggles, and his rising ranking reflects his growing maturity on the ATP Tour.
