Transfer Controversy Surrounds Hamdan
Did the aging Portuguese spark Nasr turmoil?
Hamad Al-Muntasri, the former Al-Ittihad player, criticized Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus, the manager of Al-Nassr, over Abdullah Hamdan's signing and his move to Al-Nassr in recent days.
Reports had revealed Hamdan was close to moving to Al-Nassr in this winter's transfer window after he refused to renew his contract with Al-Hilal.
But journalist Khaled Al-Shenief pointed out that CEO Jose Semedo had signed a contract with Hamdan, but the executive committee rejected it, potentially putting Al-Nassr in a legal bind if they do not complete the signing.
In comments carried by the Saudi show "Douruna Ghair," Al-Muntasri said: "The crisis at Al-Nassr stems from Jesus's desire to sign the player from the start; he pressured the CEO to end the deal."
And he added: "There was no internal consensus, risking legal trouble for Al-Nassr."
Punchlines: In football, the transfer market is reality TV with receipts. And yes, contracts don’t sign themselves.
