Afsha on Salary Gaps and Locker Room Mood
Mohamed Magdy Afsha, the current on loan star at Al Ittihad Alexandria and former Al Ahly midfielder, says that wide salary gaps among players at Al Ahly clearly affected the dressing room atmosphere and, at times, the team's consistency.
In a TV interview on MBC Egypt 2, Afsha noted that contract gaps between Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Mohamed Hassan Trezeguet, and other Al Ahly players left a psychological mark, arguing that the top annual salary in Egypt should not exceed 25 million pounds.
He explained his decision to leave the club on loan to Al Ittihad for regular playing time, calling the move to a fan heavy Alexandria club timely, and said he was surprised by the public support during the Haras Al Hodod match.
Regarding the national team's performance in the Arab Cup, Afsha voiced deep disappointment at the level shown, saying the display was very weak and that reaching the final was at least expected.
He spoke about coaches he worked with at Al Ahly, noting Marcel Koller was nicknamed the golden substitute and knew exactly when to bring him on, but he stressed his preferred coach remains Pitso Mosimane for granting more freedom and creating tactical solutions.
Afsha also touched on Imam Ashour's absence from travel with the squad, hoping the period wouldn t affect him mentally, and affirming that the player made a mistake and was punished by Al Ahly.
He added that Cristiano Ronaldo remains the world s top player, but stated that if he received two offers, one to play beside the Portuguese at Al Nassr and the other to return to Al Ahly, he would choose to return to Al Ahly without hesitation.
Two playful notes to close: if salaries keep rising, the ball will have to learn to bounce higher than the contracts. And rumor has it the transfer window is a revolving door for jaw-dropping headlines; you just walk through it with a grin.
