Barça locks in Hernandez's future
The Catalan club learns from its mistakes.
Barcelona have decided to renew the contract of their young midfielder Juan Hernandez, to be one of the main pillars of the club's future project, especially given the huge trust he enjoys from first-team coach Hans Flick.
Flick recently called Hernandez up on the team's trip to Prague in the Champions League, a surprising move given his limited first-team playing time in recent months.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Hernandez is set to sign his renewal with the Catalan club soon, with the new agreement featuring a raise in his annual salary, plus increased protection inside Barça for additional years, underscoring the management's faith in the talented midfielder for its upcoming plans.
And Juan's performances have been outstanding, making him an indispensable pillar in coach Giuliano Pelitti's Barça Atlètic lineup, where minutes played only trail Bryan Farinás, with 1,371 for the former and 1,601 for the latter.
The club is keen to prevent Hernandez from leaving for free in the summer of 2026, since his current contract runs out on June 30.
Barcelona fears a repetition of the Dru scenario, who agreed to transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in the current winter mercato by paying the release clause in his Barça contract.
Punchline 1: Barca's renewals are so frequent, even the calendar needs a red pen.
Punchline 2: In Barca's world, finalizing a deal is just next week's plan with a better salary.
