The impending departure of Polish striker Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona may arrive soon, a consequence of the unusually quiet renewal talks that have stalled discussions and left room for fresh speculation about a replacement if the move becomes reality.

Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez, citing inside sources at the club, reports that Hansi Flick’s Barcelona sees strengthening the attack as a top priority over adding a center-back, especially with Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen back to their normal levels after injuries.

Martinez, via his X account, noted that Flick believes Barça urgently needs a proven goalscorer who can lead the attack in the months ahead, particularly given Lewandowski’s likely departure at the end of the season.

Lewandowski’s contract runs until June 30, 2026, with his age (37) and a lack of strong renewal signals.

And he pointed out that Argentine star Julian Alvarez, Atlético Madrid’s striker and Argentina’s national team, has emerged as a strong candidate for Barca to fill the lone striker role starting next season.

Martinez describes Alvarez (25) as the 'striker of the future,' combining pace, finishing efficiency, and the versatility to operate in multiple attacking roles, which makes him an ideal successor to Lewandowski.

Alvarez’s release clause is high, but Barça hopes Lewandowski’s possible exit will free up significant wage-bill space to fund a marquee deal, even as the club continues to cope with financial constraints.
