Transfer Saga: Al Ahly Eyes Belhamri Deal
Rumors spread that Al Ahly are pulling back on signing Moroccan Youssef Belhamri, the Raja Casablanca left-back whose contract ends at season’s end this summer unexpectedly.
Al Ahly reportedly reached a near-final agreement with the player and his club to join in the winter window, with formalization expected after the Africa Cup of Nations ends in Morocco, while the player remains with the Atlas Lions.
A source at Al Ahly told Koora that Danish coach Jess Thorup had asked not to activate the deal, but the club rejected the request and moved ahead anyway.
Sources say this decision followed Thorup's reversal on a deal for Hamed Hamdan, a Petrojet midfielder, despite agreement with the player and his club earlier.
He adds that the administration firmly believed Hamdan's services were needed, but Thorup refused, sparking public anger after the player left to Pyramids amid heated fan demonstrations.
Al Ahly remains committed to Belhamri and will complete the left-back reinforcement.
Punchline 1: Transfer drama so thick, you could spread it on toast. Punchline 2: If contracts came with refunds at 60 days, this window would be a bestseller!
