Barcelona eyes Egypt's rising forward Hamza Abdel Karim
Hamza Abdel Karim, the 18-year-old forward for Al Ahly and Egypt's U17 team, has emerged as a target for Barcelona in the upcoming transfer window.
Barcelona reportedly sent an offer to sign the young striker who will turn 18 in January.
The Catalan club is said to have spotted the forward who impressed during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored two goals and showcased a mature attacking game.
Coach's praise and Egypt's potential
Mohamed Ibrahim, the assistant coach of Egypt's U17 team, told Kooora that he is not surprised by European interest—it's a testament to his quality.
He added that Hamza has matured significantly over the last six months, combining physical strength with smart movement and a sharp offensive mindset.
“Hamza is committed, patient, and disciplined—traits rarely found in a youngster his age,” Ibrahim said. “These attributes could help him play for the world's top clubs, which is part of the reason Barcelona is after him.”
He stressed that Egyptian football should invest in Hamza as he already has the tools to compete in Europe, predicting a bright career ahead.
Ibrahim refused to compare Hamza with Salah, calling such comparisons unfair and urged Hamza to carve out his own path.
He also highlighted that the current Egypt U17 generation is talented and determined, with several players deserving to move to Europe; sending 8-10 players abroad could be a major leap for Egyptian football.
Ibrahim previously worked as an assistant under coach Ahmed Al-Kass in leading Egypt U17 to win North Africa and qualify for the World Cup finals, before the team exited the World Cup in the Round of 16 to Switzerland.
Punchline 1: If Hamza signs with Barca, defenders will need a map and a translator—the kid finds routes to goal like a GPS on legs.
Punchline 2: Barcelona might finally have a youngster who makes my calendar look slow—it's Hamza time on the pitch, not my to-do list.
