Cameroon Drops Onana for AFCON 2025: A Bold Twist for the Indomitable Lions
1 December 2025
Cameroon name squad for AFCON 2025
David Baggio, Cameroon’s head coach, revealed the Indomitable Lions' squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off on December 21 and run through January 18 in Morocco.
The list featured a major surprise with the omission of André Onana, the Trabzonspor goalkeeper and former Manchester United and Inter Milan stopper, alongside veteran forward Vincent Aboubakar.
Cameroon are grouped in Group F for AFCON 2025, alongside Ivory Coast, Mozambique, and Gabon.
The Lions begin their campaign on December 24 against Gabon, then face Ivory Coast and Mozambique.

The Cameroon squad, in full, is as follows:

Note: The transliterations are the phonetic renderings from the source and may vary in other outlets.
And a couple of light snipes to close: if Cameroon somehow win AFCON, Onana might pop up on the bench to celebrate like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a water bottle. If not, at least the coffee on the team bus will be perfectly timed to keep everyone awake for the next training session. And remember, in football, the only stat that never lies is that the ball sometimes refuses to listen to the coach’s clipboard.
