Egypt Reveal December Camp Squad Ahead of AFCON 2025
The Egypt national team, led by coach Hossam Hassan, has announced the squad for December's training camp as they gear up for AFCON 2025, which Morocco will host from December 21 through January 18. The selection blends seasoned performers with fresh faces, signaling a serious push to reclaim continental glory.
Dates, Selections, and Key Additions
The camp starts on December 3, with the federation planning to submit the final list to CAF by December 11. Players will undergo daily training, tactical briefings, and medical checks ahead of the tournament. Imam Ashour returns to the squad after a spell away, adding box-to-box energy and a creative spark in midfield.
Goalkeepers: Mohamed El-Shenawy, Ahmed El-Shenawy, Mostafa Shobeir, Mohamed Sobhy.
Defenders: Mohamed Hany, Ahmed Eid, Ramy Rabia, Khaled Soliman, Yasser Ibrahim, Mohamed Ismail, Hossam Abdel-Meguid, Mohamed Hamdy, Ahmed Fattouh.
Midfielders: Marwan Attia, Hamdi Fathi, Mohaned Lashine, Mahmoud Saber, Mohamed Shahat, Imam Ashour, Ahmed Sayed "Zizo", Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet", Ibrahim Adel, Mustafa Fathi, Omar Marmoush, Mohamed Salah.
Forwards: Mustafa Mohamed, Salah Mohsen, Osama Fayez.
Ibrahim Hassan, the team manager, said the final 26-man squad will be sent to CAF on December 11, with the camp open from December 3 to 7 and then a closed camp ahead of a friendly against Nigeria on December 14 at Cairo Stadium.
The delegation will then head to Morocco on December 17 to complete the final phase of preparations before kickoff. Egypt open their campaign on December 22 against Zimbabwe, then face South Africa on December 26, and wrap up the group stage against Angola on December 29, as they chase the continental title last won in 2010.
Punchline time: If football were a chess game, Egypt’s midfield would be three moves ahead and still argue about who starts the clock. And if trophies came with a backpack, this squad would be lugging two—one for the trophy and one for the coffee to stay awake after the flights.
