Chants, Fines, and a Two-Game Ban: Iraqi Disciplinary Board Cracks Down on Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya

Disciplinary Action After Karmah Clash
The Iraqi Football Federation's Disciplinary Committee has banned Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya from attending two home matches and imposed a fine of 10 million Iraqi dinars (roughly $7,600) for incidents during the Karmah game at City Stadium.
The sanction stems from abusive chants directed at Ayman Hussein, the Karmah striker who formerly played for Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in 2023-2024.
The committee said the fans directed sectarian chants on three occasions and that Tunisian forward Haithem Al-Joaini intentionally spoiled a late Karmah penalty; the player was fined about $1,500.
Al-Jawiya had previously issued a statement criticizing refereeing in the league match against Al-Shorta that ended 1-1.
The club also accused referee Zaid Thamer of not awarding two penalties for Jordanian Mohannad Abu Taha and another incident involving Omani Issam Al-Subhi.
Punchline 1: If chants were a currency, Iraqi fans would be billionaires by now—meanwhile fines collect interest.
Punchline 2: Two-game ban? That’s basically a halftime timeout for the drama, sponsored by the referee’s whistle.
