Status and context
Is the Senegalese defender set to play in the much-anticipated clash?
A veil of doubt surrounds Kalidou Koulibaly's readiness for the Clasico against the traditional foes.
Al Hilal will host Al Ahli on Monday at the Kingdom Arena, in round 20 of the Roshen Saudi League.
Saudi outlet Al-Riyadia reports that Koulibaly will undergo medical tests today to determine his availability for the derby.
The report notes Koulibaly traveled home last Monday because his father passed away, before returning to Riyadh on Friday.
Sources say his name has been restored to the squad list, ahead of the game, in place of Spanish defender Pablo Mari.
Koulibaly has missed action since returning from the Arab Cup break in December, to feature with Senegal in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
He also battled a strain in the adductor while facing Egypt in the Africa Cup quarterfinals, keeping him out of action for the return.
Coach's silence about Koulibaly's status leaves fans and pundits guessing. If he plays, expect a battle; if not, the bench may spark suspense. Meanwhile, the derby scoreboard awaits tonight.
