Coaching Pressure Rises Around Renard Ahead of World Cup 2026
Pressure is mounting on the Saudi Football Federation to remove French coach Hervé Renard from leading the Green Falcons before World Cup 2026.
The team suffered a shocking 4-0 defeat to Egypt on Friday, part of the final tune-ups before the tournament.
Calls have grown to replace Renard, with names like Matias Jaissle, Simone Inzaghi, Walid Regragui, and Hussein Amouta floated as candidates.
Saudi analyst Abdul Aziz Al-Zallal told the Action with Walid show on MBC Action that Renard should have left earlier, even at the Arab Cup draw.
Al-Zallal said the national team appears psychologically defeated and has shown no clear positives in Renard's second spell.
He added Renard has nothing left to offer and pointed to 30 goals conceded in 26 matches under the French coach.
Al-Zallal argued the defense and attack underperformed and said the team needs a realistic, calm head on the sidelines.
He warned that taking the squad to World Cup 2026 with Renard would be a misstep for Saudi football.
Saudi Arabia are drawn into Group 8 alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde.
