Free Transfer Surprise: Ajax Snaps Up Ex-Arsenal Defender Tomiyasu
Takehiro Tomiyasu joins Ajax, looking to add defensive depth in the Eredivisie.

Ajax signs former Arsenal defender

Ajax Amsterdam announced on Tuesday the signing of Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, the former Arsenal player.

He joined the Dutch club on a free transfer, with a contract that runs until June 30, 2026, described as a six-month deal.

In an official statement, Ajax said: "Ajax has reached an agreement with Takehiro Tomiyasu regarding his move to the club."

The release added that the Japanese defender signed a contract for six months, lasting until June 30, 2026.

The Japanese player underwent knee surgery in February, keeping him sidelined for an extended period.

Tomiyasu joined Arsenal from Bologna in 2021.

His last appearance for Arsenal came in October 2024 against Southampton, a 3-1 win for the Gunners.

Punchline 1: If knee rehab paid the bills, Tomiyasu would own the league by now.

Punchline 2: Ajax's transfer policy proves you can win a game with a free agent and a good chiropractor—now that’s what I call value.
